Press Release - 8 February 2007

New Press Officer at the Bluebell Railway

Following the retirement of Barry Coward, the Bluebell Railway has appointed Avril Gaynor as Press Officer to Britain's only all steam standard gauge passenger railway.

Commercial Director Tim Baker said that he was delighted that Avril, a long serving member of the railway, has taken on this vital role at a time when the Bluebell Railway is about to launch a fund raising campaign to enable the extension to East Grinstead to be completed.

Bluebell's Chairman Roy Watts thanked Barry Coward, appointed Press Officer in 2003, for his efforts in raising the Bluebell's profile within local communities, in preparation for the final campaign to reach the long awaited goal of reaching East Grinstead. Roy wished Barry well for his retirement to Lincolnshire.

Avril Gaynor is no stranger to the media, having worked in PR for some time, mainly looking after actors and musicians but also occasionally with some blue chip companies. An actor herself, she is also an event organiser and works for the Royal Theatrical Fund, producing their Christmas Festivals amongst other productions.

Recently at the Bluebell Railway she has been involved in promoting the Brighton Atlantic Project, a long term reconstruction of a London Brighton and South Coast express engine.
