On Monday the 21st and Tuesday the 22nd May 2001, an advanced
Footplate Days and Ways Training course featured SER O1 Class No.65 and LBSCR E4 Class No.473 'Birch Grove' double heading a goods train.
The first photo is of the two locomotives and brake van at Holywell heading north to collect their train.

Also in action was BR 4MT No.75027, which headed the passenger services for the day. Below it is seen with the 2.05 from Sheffield Park at Sharpthorne Tunnel.

Below left : Shortly afterwards, the goods climbs steadily out of Sharpthorne tunnel heading towards Kingscote. Below right : The return working is seen in almost the same location, but this time looking north as the vintage pair pass through the site of West Hoathly station.
