Locomotive Works Fitter

The locomotive workshop is open 7 days per week, and is seeking a skilled engineer to join the team to carry out the maintenance, overhaul and repair of the railway's historic collection of steam locomotives.

The applicant must have either completed an engineering apprenticeship or have other equivalent qualifications.

Skills essential for this post include machining and fitting mechanical parts with demonstrable competence in the use of manual operated lathes and milling machines.

Weekend working may be required.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the inspection, repair and maintenance of the company's buildings.
Building management, architectural, design, surveying, construction or similar qualifications/experience are necessary to effectively undertake this role.

This is a volunteer post that carries no remuneration or specific hours of duty. However, the successful applicant will require sufficient time and flexibility to effectively undertake this role and have the appropriate technical competences to meet the professional requirements of the post.

Volunteer to support our Social Media activity

As the Bluebell Railway gears up for its 60th Anniversary celebrations over the next 3 years, starting with the commemoration of the closure of the British Railway operations in March 2018, it is looking for a volunteer to support the Commercial department in its Social Media activity around the planned events. The successful applicant will work closely with the Commercial team and the Delivery Group for the Diamond Jubilee to ensure all PR opportunities are exploited on Facebook, Twitter and other social media channels.

The applicant must demonstrate excellent communication skills, a flair for creative copy-writing and a proven track record of using a range of social media channels.

Education volunteers

The education department of the Bluebell Railway is expanding and needs you!
As an Education Volunteer you might...
  • Be part of our exciting new exhibition as an explainer (opening Summer 2018).
  • Conduct fun science experiments.
  • Assist on family event days.
  • Guide school parties around our exhibits.
  • Facilitate outdoor education.
  • Escort school parties on the steam trains.
  • Get creative.
  • Dress up and role play in our 'WW2 evacuation' experience.
  • Gain experience and build an attractive C.V.
We are looking for people with an interest in Heritage Learning. If you like working with people of all ages, are a good communicator, want to learn new skills and share some of your own, then this could be the volunteering opportunity for you.

The Commercial Department is looking for volunteer help

We are seeking a volunteer Sales and Information office assistant, to work in either our East Grinstead or Sheffield Park office, to assist visitors and sell and book our products at the Bluebell Railway, including our dining trains and travel services. Previous customer service experience is desirable and you must be computer literate. Previous applicants need not apply.
