Founded in 1959, the Bluebell has the finest collection of steam locomotives and carriages in the South of England and is one of the largest and most successful tourist attractions in Sussex. The railway has been the leading pioneer of mainline steam railway preservation in Europe. The Bluebell Railway is tackling the challenge of the final push to rejoin the mainline railway at East Grinstead and wishes to appoint an experienced professional fundraiser.
The campaign to raise money from trusts, foundations and private giving has a target of £5 million. A share issue will raise a proportion of this, and is nearly ready for launch.
Based at the Railway's Sheffield Park offices in Sussex, the co-ordinator will work closely with the Board and be expected to operate strategically as well as leading the 'hands on' fundraising activity. This will include developing existing contacts and identifying and cultivating new prospects and opportunities.
Experience of high-level involvement in a successful major capital campaign is essential.
