Other ways to give:
There are plenty of ways you can give to the Bluebell Railway as well as a cash donation or standing order:

Gifts in Kind
If you have gifts in kind which might be of use to the BRPS, from building materials to machinery, please email info @ bluebell-railway.co.uk

Donate Shares:
Do you hold small quantities of stocks or shares that you don't know what to do with?  Would you have to pay Capital Gains Tax on your next sale of shares?
Then why not donate them to the Bluebell Railway Trust?

Any shares donated to Bluebell Railway Trust will either be kept as an investment for the present, or sold at a preferential rate using our local broker.

We would welcome any shares, large or small, old or new.  If you would like to discuss the donation of shares further please contact info @ bluebell-railway.co.uk

Leave a legacy
Where there's a Will... Video Legacies are a very valuable source of income for the Bluebell Railway.  See more in this video.

Making a Will
It is important that everyone makes a Will to ensure that your estate passes to loved ones rather than automatically to the State.  Leaving a Will ensures that your wishes are carried out to the letter, leaving no doubt or uncertainty for those you leave behind.  A Will can also include a gift to a charity or charities of your choice.

Anyone can do it!
Truth be told, anyone can leave a charitable gift in their Will.  It can be a simple cash payment or a percentage of the remaining or residuary estate.  Whatever the size of gift, let us assure you that all are most warmly received.

Would you consider the Bluebell Railway?
If ever the time is right for you to include a gift to a charity in your Will, please would you consider the Bluebell Railway?  By leaving such a gift you will be helping to secure the future of the railway and the continued development of our tracks, stations, locos and coaches

What do I need to do?
Simply let your solicitor know that you would like to include a gift to the Bluebell Railway Trust and provide our full address and charity registration number:

Bluebell Railway Trust, Sheffield Park Station, East Sussex TN22 3QL
Charity registration No.292497

Suggested wording
I bequeath to the Bluebell Railway Trust (Registered Charity No.292497), Sheffield Park Station, East Sussex TN22 3QL, for its general charitable purposes  (insert one of the following options)

  • all the residue of my estate
  • one X share of the residue of my estate
  • X% of my estate
  • the sum of £.........
  • the following personal items
  • any terms of restriction as to the way the money should be spent (e.g. extending the Railway, carrriage restoration etc).

and the receipt of their responsible officer for the time being of the Trust, shall be good and sufficient discharge to my Executors.

Can I avoid Inheritance Tax?
Leaving charitable gifts in your Will can certainly help you to reduce the value of your estate liable for Inheritance Tax.  The current taxable threshold stands at £325,000.  Above this amount, subject to certain provisions and exemptions, everything can be taxed at a rate of 40%.  Charitable gifts are tax exempt, and so by leaving a gift to the Bluebell Railway you could reduce the amount of tax paid after your death.  A useful leaflet is available from HM Revenue & Customs
