Valve repairs for the Q1

The Q1's valve liners were found to be worn to such an extent that the bobbins have started breaking up. This picture shows one of them with its outer edge snapped off. [View of broken valve bobbin]
[View of removed valve liners] The extent of wear on the valve liners is such that new liners are required. The old liners should be extracted by pulling them out, but having been in place for at least 35 years they would not move. They were removed by using an arc-welding rod to gouge out the metal along the liner's axis, allowing it to shrink and release from the main casting. This picture shows the liners after removal.
The castings from which the new liners will be made by a lot of machining work. [View of new liner castings]
