The job is to lead the overhaul of locomotives, principally repairs to boilers and mechanical components. A mechanical engineering apprenticeship or equivalent qualification is required. Good organisational skills, and the ability to work with paid and volunteer staff is essential.

The locomotive works operates 7 days per week, and some weekend working may be required.
