Football Competition

Raising funds for the Bluebell Railway's Maunsell Restaurant Car No.7864

Football Competitions - 2019/20 Season

Entry details for the new season are now available.
The deadline for receiving entries is Friday 9th August.

The final outcome from the previous season is below.

To help raise funds for the restoration of Southern Railway Restaurant Car No.7864, we are running not one but two football competitions.
Both are simple to enter and require no knowledge of either football or railways, so if you don't know the difference between a red card and a red signal, fear not!

Competition 1 is to predict the final positions of teams in the Premier League. At the end of the season you will receive 1 point for each place you are out by. For example if you predicted that your favourite team would finish 1st and they actually finished 20th you would incur 19 points. The person with the lowest number of points at the end of the season is the winner, and will receive 25% of the total entry fees. The person in 2nd place will receive 15% of the total entry fees, and the person in 3rd place will receive 10% of the total entry fees. The remaining 50% will go towards the restoration of No.7864. In the event of a tie, the prize pot will be shared between the winners.

Entry form

The entry form allows up to three entries; complete one column for each entry. Multiple copies of this form will be accepted if you'd like to enter more than three times.

Competition 2 is simply to predict the winner of the FA Cup. The winner(s) will be the entrant(s) who predict the winner, and the runner(s)-up will be the entrant(s) who predict the losing finalists. 35% of the total entry fees will be shared amongst the winner(s), with 15% shared amongst the runner(s)-up, and the remaining 50% of entry fees will go towards the restoration of No.7864.

Updates will be available on this web page throughout the season, and final results will be published here shortly after the completion of the football season.

Entry for the Premiership and FA Cup competitions is now open, and all entries must be received by Friday 9th August 2019.
Entries can be made on the pdf form available to download here (right-clicking will download the form to your computer)
- in the event of problems, do contact Deborah Carver to be e-mailed or posted a copy of the form.

Good luck, and thank you for your support!

Please note - entrants must be aged 16 or over.

Final positions in the 2018-19 Premiership Competition

As the season has now ended, below are the final positions. Congratulations to the lucky winners, whose cheques will be sent soon, along with entries for the 19/20 competition.

The lower the score, the closer the predictions of positions made in the entry are to the actual championship positions.

FA Cup Competition

As the FA Cup has now also finished, it's another win for David Pegg,
who predicted Manchester City as the winners. No-one selected Watford
as runner-up, so that pot goes back to 7864.

Details of funds raised in previous years are here.

The Football Competitions are currently run by Deborah Carver
