Going back a couple of years to the 2000 Summer Gala sees 1902 built SECR C Class No.592 at West Hoathly, with the 9.50 ex. Horsted Keynes. The date is Saturday 5th August 2000. This magnificent loco is currently out of traffic in her Centenary year, but hopefully the use of a spare boiler will see her back in action before very long .

June 2002
On Sunday 2nd June 2002, BR Standard 4 No. 80151 is seen near Ingwersons with the second Golden Arrow working of the day. The train also comprised the Vintage Branchline Set, yet the load didn't seem to post too much of a problem for the '4' as she climbed the 1 in 125 at this spot.

April 2002
The Easter Period of 2002 saw four days of quite intensive running, including Stepney Specials fitted in to the hourly service. The popularity of the latter meant that SER 0-6-0 No.65 was required to double-head with Stepney, and the pairing are seen here running past Three Arch B ridge on the approach to Horsted Keynes. The train is the 4.31 from Sheffield Park on Good Friday, 29th March 2002.

One locomotive that has so far failed to appear in my Picture of the Month section is one of the Bluebell's most regular performers, BR 4MT No.75027. This picture depicts the 1952 built 4-6-0 climbing past Holywell during the October 2001 Giants of Steam, having just crossed Keysford Lane. The train is the 12.50pm from Sheffield Park, formed of the vintage branchline set and LNWR observation car, while the date is Saturday 27th October.

February 2002
The last few day s of 2001 saw an intensive timetable of vintage trains in operation. On the penultimate day of the year, LBSCR E4 No.473 'Birch Grove' is opened up after receiving the token for the single line from Kingscote to Horsted Keynes. The 1898 built 0-6-2T was in charge of one vintage set, the other being worked by the Bluebell's two LBSCR Terriers, Nos. 55 of 1875, and 672 of 1872.

January 2002
9F No.92240 makes a fine sight climbing the 1 in 75 gradient of Freshfield Bank with the 12.35 departure from Sheffield Park on Boxing Day 2001. It was quite a sight seeing the locomotive coming round the curve at Ketches, over half a mile away, and then attacking the bank, sending plumes of steam into the cold December air. Anyway, it certainly made up for missing a cold turkey lunch !!
