Goods Train Weekend - Road Movements

Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th March 2008

Pick up the Goods

We demonstrate how this was achieved with period British Railways road vehicles, which will be making pick ups and deliveries between local towns and villages and the railway.

Saturday 29 March

Mechanical Horse and Fordson Van
  • 09.00 Lewes Railway Station to Harveys Brewery. Collect barrel of Harveys Mild.
  • 09.30 Depart brewery for Sheffield Park Station. Transfer barrel to 11.32 Goods Train to Kingscote
  • 11.40 Depart Sheffield Park station for Number 2, New Barn Cottage, Horsted Keynes. Collect sack of logs and continue to the closed station at West Hoathly via Birch Grove.
  • 12.30 Arrive at West Hoathly station and pose for photographs
  • 13.15 Depart West Hoathly station and travel to The Cat Inn, West Hoathly. Deliver logs.
  • 14.00 Depart The Cat and travel to Kingscote Station for photo line up.
  • 15.30 Depart Kingscote Station for Horsted Keynes Station for photo line up.
  • 17.00 Depart Horsted Keynes station for Sheffield Park.

Second Mechanical Horse

  • 10.00 Horsted Keynes station to Ardingly Station. Check for any collections and photo line up at Ardingly until 11.30
  • 11.30 Depart Ardingly Station for West Hoathly Station via Highbrook Smokery. Deliver Box. Photograph line up at West Hoathly Station.
  • 13.15 Depart for Cat Inn, West Hoathly to Horsted Keynes Station
  • 14.30 Depart Horsted Keynes for St Giles Church, Horsted Keynes. Deliver post for Rev Timothy Rawdon-Mogg.
  • 15.00 Depart St Giles for Horsted Keynes station and take part in photo line up

Sunday 30 March

Mechanical Horse and Fordson Van
  • 09.30 Depart Sheffield Park station for Kingscote station
  • 10.30 - 11.40 Photo line up at Kingscote
  • 11.45 Depart Kingscote for East Grinstead High Street. Park outside Broadley Brothers for photo line up
  • 12.45 Depart East Grinstead High Street to East Grinstead station. Photo line up
  • 13.15 Depart East Grinstead Station for The Cat Inn West Hoathly and collect sack of logs.
  • 14.15 Depart Cat Inn for 2, New Barn Cottages, deliver logs. Return to Horsted Keynes station for photo line up from 15.00 - 16.00

  • 10.00 Depart Horsted Keynes Station for Kingscote
  • 10.30 - 11.40 Photo line up at Kingscote
  • 11.45 Depart Kingscote for East Grinstead High Street. Park outside Broadley Brothers for photo line up
  • 12.45 Depart East Grinstead High Street to East Grinstead station. Photo line up
  • 13.15 Depart East Grinstead Station to Horsted Keynes via Weir Wood Reservoir. Pose for photographs alongside reservoir
