Birch Grove's repairs


The boiler has been replaced in the frames:

[View of engine with boiler refitted in frames] The boiler was actually lifted in using a road crane. The workshop cranes are being used to position it for its fixings. [Click on the image for full-size picture.]
The smokebox saddle is a fabricated replacement for the old broken casting. This does not quite fit, so will be cut and welded to match the smokebox. [View of smokebox and saddle]
[View of boiler backplate cladding] The next part of the jigsaw - the boiler backplate cladding. Note the washout-plug surrounds are made of copper..
