News of the repair of locomotive No. 928 Stowe

28 September 2001

View of loco
The top part of the tender has been completely removed, leaving a rolling chassis. Much serous corrosion is present around the front part of the framing. This picture shows the left side inner frame plate, which runs just inside the wheels, where on the section between the front drag box and the first cross-stretcher it is corroded right through. This whole section will be replaced.

The front section of the outer frame is also corroded just beneath the angle which secures the bunker and tank floor plate. The top part of the frame will be cut away and replaced with new plate welded in, and new angle sections.

More pictures taken during 928's repair, including the large-size originals of those shown here, can be found here.

There were previous news items about this locomotive's repair on 4 April.

More information about 928 can be found at the Maunsell Society's site.
