Welcome to Bluebell's Permanent Way Department!

January Engineering Work 2008

This January we will be undertaking major work in and around Sheffield Park loco-yard. The main jobs will be undertaken during an engineering fortnight running from Monday 21 Jan to Friday 1st Feb.

Volunteer help will be needed throughout this period, but especially for the first couple of days when two sets of points are to be disconnected and lifted out. New dr ainage will then be installed towards the end of the first week, such that the next big volunteer push will start over the weekend of 26/27 January and into the following week when new timbers will be laid and the pointwork re-installed.

You don't need any previous experience to join in, and there will be work on offer to suit all physical abilities!

On each day we will meet at Sheffield Park station from 8.30am for a 9am start, and free ho t lunches will be provided for everyone working at 9am. Engineering weeks are a very good way of getting to meet different people from around the railway, and they are also good fun! Of course there are a few safety requirements, which are detailed on this page, which also provides more general information about volunteering in the PW department.

Please do consider lending a hand for a day or two - your help will be greatly appreciated. It would be very helpful if you could let us know which day(s) you can attend - not only so that we know how many people to expect, but also to ensure enough hot-lunches are ordered!! So, please e-mail me if you can help.

We look forward to meeting you soon!

Whetted your appetite?

Anyone who would like to lend a hand in our free outdoor gym, come and meet other volunteers and help improve the ride quality on our railway will always receive a warm welcome!
