With no trains running due to engineering works at Horsted Keynes this year's Track Trek sponsored walk covered the entire line from East Grinstead to Sheffield Park, a distance of eleven miles. The walk took place during the daytime on Saturday 12 November. This year's walk is raising money for two appeals with all funds being equally split between our Accessible Steam Heritage and Cash for Cover appeals.
Whereas in previous years only one walk has been possible we decided this year to offer a second, shorter walk for those who feel eleven miles is a bit too much. If a five mile walk sounded more to participant's liking then they could walk from Horsted Keynes to Sheffield Park. A complimentary bus service operated to take trekers back to their original starting point.
We are very pleased that so many people took up this unique opportunity to walk the entire length of the Railway as there are not many occasions when we are not running trains, and also raise lots of money through sponsorship for these two worthy appeals. The minimum sponsorship was £25.00 per person and £40.00 for a couple or family (2 adults and 3 children aged between 7 and 16 years).
This was a chance not only for supporters to see the track from a different perspective, including the tunnel, but also to raise money for the Bluebell by getting sponsorship from friends, family and work colleagues. Please encourage your sponsors (if they qualify) to Gift Aid their donation so we can claim an additional 25% on their contribution.
