Day 1 (Thursday 22nd May 2008)
Leave London St Pancras at 10.00 for Brussels where we change for Amsterdam and Hoorn arriving approx 19.00 in time for dinner at the hotel.
Day 2 (Friday 23rd May)
After breakfast at the hotel we shall make our way to Hoorn NS station and will travel by electric train to Alkmaar. On Friday mornings there is a colourful cheese market on the town square. There will be a choice of staying in Alkmaar for an optional boat trip on the canals or returning to Hoorn for the MSHM or to visit the town with its fine 16th century buildings. Day 3 (Saturday 24th May)
An early start by NS train to Enkhuizen for the ferry boat to Stavoren in Friesland. Today there will be a steam festival in Sneek where there is also a model railway museum. We expect to travel by steam train from Stavoren to Sneek.. Return by the same route with dinner in Enkhuizen before catching the electric train back to Hoorn. |
Day 4 (Sunday 25th May)
Today we shall spend a day on the MSHM celebrating their 40th Anniversary. A special timetable with steam trains between Medemblick and Twisk and diesel trains between Hoorn and Twisk. Dinner is included. (Photo K Laan) |
Day 5 (Monday 26th May)
By NS train to Apeldoorn for a trip on VSM railway to Dieren with ample time to explore the locomotive depot at Beekbergen with its fine collection of ex German engines. Either lunch or dinner is included. |
Day 6 (Tuesday 27th May)
After checking out of the hotels, we travel by NS train to Enkhuizen for a visit to the fascinating Zuiderzee museum. We shall then travel by NS train from Enkhuizen to Brussels changing in Amsterdam At Brussels we join the 18.59 Eurostar train for London St Pancras due at 19.56 |
Cost should be in the region of £425 with a single supplement of approx £95 If you are interested in joining the tour please complete the booking form and return it with your deposit as soon as possible so that I can confirm Eurostar seats and the hotel booking.
The terms and conditions for operating this tour are as follows:
A deposit of £100 per person and the Booking Form (or a pdf version if you prefer) to be with Roger Price by as soon as possible and a provisional passenger list specifying the type of rooms required, and in the case of twin rooms, the names of the passengers sharing each twin room.
Note: The deposit will only be returned if the places can be resold. In this case a 10% admin cost will be deducted.
Every passenger is strongly advised to have a valid travel insurance policy to cover against accident, illness, theft or loss of personal property and possible cancellation charges
Roger Price and Gavin Bennett are running this trip on behalf of the Bluebell Railway Preservation Society but neither they nor the Society can accept responsibility for any changes to the itinerary, although these will be advised as soon as known to participants. Neither can they nor the Society accept any responsibility for loss of property or delays by carriers or costs for curtailment or cancellation through illness which should all be adequately insured against by participants. Participants attention is also drawn to the remarks concerning the deposit shown in the above paragraph.
